The Art of Stephanie Marcus

Painting of leaves

ON DISPLAY: May 3 - June 2024

Stephanie Marcus was a graduate of the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan. She learned oil painting from Robert Goodnough during her time at Syracuse University, where she graduated Cum Laude with her BFA. She completed her MA in Computer Art from the NY Institute of Technology.

Stephanie took photography courses with Philippe Halsman and Dennis Stock. Her photographs have appeared in New York Magazine, Life, Esquire and various art books. She taught photography at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

Stephanie’s training in computer graphics developed her strong composition, color and patterns. She honed her appreciation for form and light, and an eye for motion and fleeting moments with photography.

This exhibit features a variety of oil paintings, including many that began life as digital edits of photographs that she had taken.

Stephanie passed away in 2023, shortly after her work was selected for exhibition in the Ottinger Room at the Croton Free Library. This exhibition is in memory of a lifetime dedicated to art.
